About the buk

The Buk is a visual resource for spiritual reflection that anyone can use or contribute to. It is an online illuminated Bible where Bible verses are reflected on visually with either photographs, artwork or video. It is a community driven project, where anyone can contribute images created by themselves. Images can be sent on their own for the Buk community to reflect on, or with a verse(s) already decided on. Or the Buk can simply be viewed by anyone for spiritual reflection, be it personal or for use with groups or in worship.
The Buk stands for ‘The Bible UK’ and all the images are related to or taken in Britain. This does not mean the project is nationalistic, it is like this so that it helps spiritual reflection for those living in Britain. Images that represent an area of the country someone knows, or perhaps shows their town or even street provides an instant connection that is harder for generic images to achieve. Linking the visual with scripture takes an effort of imagination and attention and doing it this way it is hoped it will help this. In the future, the Buk could go international with the same idea repeated in other countries.
The project has been created by Mike Lowe, a Baptist minister at Boulton Lane Baptist Church in Derby. It is hoped that the Buk will be a spiritual resource for many years to come. Mike still needs lots of people to contribute, so please take part. There are a number of ways you can get involved from the very quick to something more in depth. A quick way to contribute is to send an image you have taken or created and email to images@thebuk.co.uk and leave others to reflect on a suitable verse. Or you can reflect on the images that don’t have a verse associated with them yet and leave a comment. You can create images and put a suitable verse(s) with them and either email them or send them to the flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/thebuk, or the facebook group at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=108737397710. You can also post items to 118 Church Hill Street, Burton on Trent, DE15 0HT.

Contributions will be published on the main Buk website a short time after they are received.
Providing supporting information with any contributions is very helpful to, like when and where it was taken along with any personal comment. If you contribute, you give permission for visitors to the thebuk.co.uk website to use your images or video for non commercial purposes. Please ensure you have permission to share any material before it is posted.

  1. love the pictures and ideas..

    for Gregg WEbb life and death how about
    1 Peter 1 v 24-25
    “All people are like grass,
    and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
    the grass withers and the flowers fall,

    but the word of the Lord endures forever.”

    Also – would love it if the right hand column was in some kind of order – either as per the usual order of Bible booke or Alphabetically so if we have a reference we an see if there is an image related to it

    but every blessing in what you are doing

    Anne (Another Baptist Minister!)

    • Thanks very much Anne. In the coming year I will have more time to spend on it and that will include better navigation and larger images. Thanks for the contribution, I will put that verse with that image.
